Final Video Story

For my final video story draft I continued with the topic of Washington State Volleyball and filmed footage in Bohler. Bohler is the place where Washington State Volleyball practices and workouts in on a daily basis, as well as plays matches in the gym. The beginning of my video story started in the volleyball gym to show the court, the atmosphere, and what the practice boards look like. Then, I showed some footage of the hallway to display that the video transitioning to downstairs. The next couple of clips I took of the volleyball locker room to show what words and saying are in the locker room. Some of the last footage was taken in the coaches’s office where there is a cougar head and underneath are the five words that the coaches base the program off of.

I chose the music from freemusicarchive.com and used the song I did to show intensity to the sport/place it is played. I read the feedback I received from my group members and a lot of them said to label the places I was going around and filming.

For the final draft I made some edits that I thought were necessary to make this project cleaner and more powerful to watch. I took some more video clips in order to be able to cut away from scenes faster, that way it doesn’t look too stuck on one area. I also made the clips go faster and had the cut aways to each clip go along with the beat. You will notice in the beginning when the beat drops and the music becomes faster the next clips changes at that moment. Another edit I made was fading to white after the hallway shot was taken to signify a different location in the building. I also edited the sequence of the 2016 banner in the locker room to appear faster, so it would fit right into the song beats. The last edit I made was fading out the music at the end of the video, that way it wouldn’t end abruptly.

Video Story Draft

My design process for this video story was to take videos and pictures in Bohler gymnasium at Washington State University. I figured I should get the hallways of Bohler, the coaches’s office, along with the actual gym floor/back wall, and some one the names in the locker room. I tried getting videos of what Washington State Volleyball is about and give people an inside look of what we see everyday. Along with what is seen everyday, I also got footage of the basis of our foundation at Washington State and what we feel strongly about. Examples of that are the video clips of the five words, the legacy wall explaining the past, present, and future; along with the rise again banner.  The song I chose was found on freemusic.com and found the non copyrighted song called Ultraspeed by To Eris. I chose that song for my video because it was higher paced song and the sport of volleyball is a fast paced game so I thought it went well with my theme. I made sure to take videos of the five words we use in our program because I specify the importance of those words in my other projects. I took the videos on my camera phone sideways because in the readings, it specifies that it is important to take videos with your phone sideways and not straight up and down. For editing in Premiere I trimmed some of the footage in the preview setting in the upper left corner of the app. Then brought all my clips into a sequence I liked. I also went into effects and applied some video transitions to make the footage more capturing. Some effects involved the dissolving of the beginning photo, also at the end I had the cougar head picture fade out to pure white to the credit scene. I also added in some credits at the end to show who made the video and at the end had the text dissolve out, as well as having the music fade out.

Audio Story Final

For my design process I chose to tell my volleyball story from when I first started and talk about the struggle I went through to be where I am today. I also talk about how much I love the girls on the team and how this program here at Washington State volleyball is more like a family rather than just a team. When I first received this project idea of an audio story, my first thought was to tell my story because I feel that personal life stories on how people became who they are, sends a very powerful message to those who see them. In high school I would watch the 30 for 30 videos of professional players and hear their life stories. Those videos made me feel inspired and made me want to do my very best in my sport.

I listened to my peer’s feedback on my final project and decided to put in an interview of one of my team mates explaining her experiences. I asked her the questions of how she felt coming into this team as a freshman and how she feels now. I thought this was a good key aspect to add to my audio story to make it seem more authentic and have other people’s stories on it too who went through the same thing.

For my audio elements, I chose two different sounds to go along with my audio story that I recorded. I wanted some light guitar background music playing softly during my audio footage because I always hear soft music playing in the background of interviews with sports players. I looked up on the site of free sound to find some backgrounds sounds for my track. This site was the same site used in other audition tutorials to play some sound waves. I picked two different guitar sounds; the first one is softer paced and the second is a more up beat one. The reason for this is because I made sure the upbeat one changed once I said I arrived to washington state and my fear was gone. I used the loop tool to have the sounds repeat as long as I stretched them out to. I then lowered the volumes of each of the sounds to play softer and raised the volume on my voice to make sure the music doesn’t trump my speech. I also added a fourth soundtrack to the audition software to enter in my team mate’s answers to make it sound smooth. I also edited my audio story to make the audition story shorter.

Final Logo

For my logo design process I decided to use the inspiration from the cougar logo made in the adobe illustrator tutorials, but add my own twist to it. The logo represents Washington State Volleyball and that is why I made a circle around the logo because volleyball’s are round/ In the middle I have a volleyball player who is blocking a ball and the Washington State University logo in the center of the figure of the volleyball player. The reason I chose a blocking position for the logo is because blocking is a big part of the volleyball program. Said previously in my digital project, we are ranked number three in the country for blocking, so that is why the symbol must be of blocking. The lines spread apart on the outer part of the circle was done to bring emphasis and make the logo pop out. Gave the logo the sort of jazz hands excitement to the graphic on this logo post.

For in response to my peer’s critiques, I changed in my final draft logo where I placed the cougar logo. I used the line tool to cut out a volleyball and placed it across the blocker’s arms to appear that she was blocking. I then put the cougar head logo on top of where the volleyball was. Another change I made was keeping the text black and the rest the crimson red because I thought the text of volleyball would stand out better in a different color. I also changed the text style to a different font because one of my classmates told me it would look better with a different font being used.

To create the whole logo I first pulled two photos I used in my graphic design project. I first resized the images after I went up to file and placed the photos into the document, as well as created a new layer. The cougar head and the blocking photo I used the pen tool to cut out the parts I wanted to use in my logo. I went around each shape and traced along the edges to create the look I wanted. Next I took of the stroke of each and changed to a fill color and took the eye off of the first layer, so I could only see the images I cropped. Next I took the shape builder tool and clicked on alt/option to delete excess parts I didn’t want in my design. Next I took the two shapes and grouped them together to make them move as one. After that, I took the ellipse tool and made a circle around the whole design and made it have no stroke, then sent that to the back. Next I created a new circle and cropped it around the circle I just made and used the shift and alt tools to make it line up perfectly with the previous circle. Next I copied the outer most circle and pasted it in place. I used the shift and alt tool to make the circle come out a little bigger from the previous circle. Repeated that step twice then took the text tool and made a text on the path. I chose what font I wanted and made it all caps. I used the arrow tools to move my text along the path to make it appear on top. I took the next biggest circle and held shift down to make it align in the middle of my text. I made the stroke of the line increase to 32 points so that it covered my text. Next I went to stroke and showed all the options and made it dashed lined to create the rays effect. Made the points 8 and 7 to make the lines look just big enough. I took the scissors tool and cut the top half of the circle so that the letters were no longer covered. Then I took the outer most circle and increased the stroke to bring it in tight around the logo.

To make the logo become one and have it stay the same shape even if you shrink it down, I clicked on the bottom circle to click expand and then eventually the whole thing I selected and clicked expand again for the whole logo.

For changing the color I went to the gradient palette and changed them to red and an orange red and made the gradient trace from the bottom to the top to give it a shimmer. My idea for this logo is to show that this represents WSU volleyball and showing someone blocking in the middle to signify that our identity is our blocking. The cougar head logo in the middle of the body shows that this is WSU volleyball that is being represented.
